Marc Jacobs Under(cover) Perfecting Coconut Face Primer Review

Despite owning quite a few, I’ve never been the hugest believer in primers. Sure, they are nice, and the radiance ones are always welcome but for longevity…I don’t know, good ones are few and far between in my opinion. All this has changed recently as my skin has decided to do a 180 on me and change from normal/combo to as dry as the Sahara. Enter the Marc Jacobs Under(cover) Perfecting Coconut Face Primer.

After years and years of trying to combat small oil breakouts on my chin, nose and sometimes forehead, summer or winter, my primers collection pretty much comprised of oil control, smoothing & radiance. I have never had to bother with any kind of hydrating primers (ever!) and would always ensure I had a powder compact in my handbag at all times for my oily chin. We are in Spring now in Australia coming up to Summer very shortly and the fact that my face is feeling tight and I have not had to ‘powder my nose’ in weeks and weeks is something of a perplexing situation for me. It’s bloody hot here dammit! Why am I coming home from work in 35+ degree weather with not the slightest ‘glow’ (read: oily) on my face?

I tried using a heavier moisturiser in the morning/hydrating serum still to no avail. I was going to have to go off in search in a new product (any excuse to shop hehe). Reading lots of reviews I settled on the Marc Jacobs Under(cover) Perfecting Coconut Face Primer which I picked up in the Sephora VIB Rouge 20% off sale. Well, well, well…. I have not had too much experience with this type of primer but my word, if this didn’t make the world of improvement!

One pump over my regular skincare and sunscreen is all that is needed to guarantee my face is not going to feel tight and uncomfortable all day. The primer smoothes over beautifully and sinks in quickly to provide a well hydrated base for foundation/BB/CC’s whatever you’ve got going on. I’ve tried this with a couple of different foundations now (Dior Nude Air mainly which is my current obsession – review here) all with brilliant results. My face is smoothed & hydrated and my foundation looks pretty fresh at the end of the day. Pores are noticeably less noticeable and for a primer that doesn’t feel  siliconey (the ingredients seem to include silicone) it does a great smoothing job. I still pretty much have zero oils coming through at the end of the day, but my skin no longer resembles an old scaly crocs and I have no need for a midday powder touchup so #winning I guess.
