Herbivore Botanicals

I can’t exactly remember where I first came across Herbivore Botanicals Skincare (was it Instagram? Most likely) but the sleek, modern & minimalistic aesthetics alone where enough to convince me to try it and I am so happy I did! A completely natural line of skincare with an emphasis on high quality organic ingredients good enough to eat (quite literally – probably tastes less than stellar, but they source food-grade ingredients) and using absolutely no chemicals, SLS or mineral oils so all the products are rich in concentration and ‘active’ ingredients as there are no nasty fillers to contend with.

So anyhoo I made myself an order on the Herbivore Botanicals site a little while back now and after receiving my gorgeous bottles I got to work trying them all out.

The Jasmine Glowing Hydration Body Oil is one of the nicest body oils I have used. I am normally more of a body cream person, but tell me it smells of Jasmine and I’ll slap anything on. Smells beautiful, sinks in reasonably quickly for an oil and doesn’t leave me feeling sticky or greasy. If I had to pick at this one though, I’d have to say – that sleek, modern, minimalistic packaging that just looks so insta-worthy? It doesn’t work for this particular product. First off the Jasmine Body Oil in a glass bottle that may look great and it also might not be an issue except… it has a spray nozzle rather than a pump. I don’t know about you but trying to spray an oil over your body, rub it in and then move along to spray the next body part is just a recipie for disaster and I have almost dropped and smashed the bottle on the bathroom tiles quite a few times now with my oily fingers. Obviously I am shallow (!) and don’t want to decant the oil into some old nondescript  pump bottle but I am so on the hunt for a pump that fits.

I do love me a good hydrating face mist and the Rose Hibiscus Coconut Water Hydrating Face Mist does not disappoint. I seem to be all over Coconut anything right now. It’s obviously one of the ingredients of the moment! Again this one smells delicious and gives me a boost of hydration either as a toner or as a quick pick-me-up spritz during the day. I also love the fact that the water is soft pink. It just looks so luxurious and girly on the counter. See my shallow point above ^^

Do you like perfect, straight and sleek hair? Yes? No? For me, I am all about the messy undone look. I can’t stand my hair to be too ‘perfect’ it’s just not me at all. Coupled with the fact I am lazy as and unless someone else blow-dries and styles my hair I am quite loathe to do it myself and usually opt for the bare minimum of heat styling. Hence why my ‘hair care’ basically consists of dry shampoos and texturising sprays/sea salt mists. So when I spotted the Coconut & Sea Mist Beach Wave Hair Mist in a travel size I just had to add that to cart. This is not the most hardcore of sea salt sprays but it does help create a bit of texture when I spray onto damp hair and tie it up in a bun to air dry. But my favourite way of using this is more of a refresher spray on day 2 hair (or 3…maybe 4 – don’t judge me) after I’ve sprayed a bit of dry shampoo. Because it smells INCREDIBLE. Even Mr BB has commented on how nice and coconutty my hair smelt. So not quite ‘as directed’ but I am making good use of it and I’m using it multiple times a week so well worth it for me.

Herbivore Blue Tansy Mask

Herbivore Blue Tansy Mask

I’ve left the star of the show until last. The Herbivore Blue Tansy AHA & BHA Resurfacing Clarity Mask has quickly become my go-to as a bit of a jack-of-all trades face mask. Marketed an AHA/BHA this mask does a fabulous job of exfoliating my skin gently and my skin is left clear & glowing. Not only that but somehow it takes down any redness I might be experiencing (I assume it’s the Blue Tansy Oil in it) and honestly the morning after I first applied this mask I was in awe at my face. It was clear, soft & just glowing with barely a hint of pinky/red which is unusual for me. It felt great and looked great but was it a one off? So the next time I tried the mask I checked the results the next morning…nope, not a coincidence. Same results. Hooked I tell ya.

The mask is quite a strange texture. It is gel like, but really liquidy gel like. Very hard to explain, I have never used another mask with the same texture. I use an old flat (clean!) foundation brush to apply directly from the jar as it would be quite difficult to scoop out with fingers or spatula to apply. Left on for 20 mins or so and rinsed off well with a face cloth I am left with calmed, soothed and smooth skin. Seriously, I cannot get enough of this mask at this moment.

Herbivore Botanicals….I may have come for your looks, but I am hooked and am staying for the beautiful quality products.
