Review – Hand Chemistry Extreme Hydration Concentrate

Dry cracked winter hands? Dry hands anytime of year? I fall into the ‘anytime’ category and I always have a hand cream close to hand (geddit?). I am very partial to a beautifully perfumed hand cream but sometimes the big guns need to be pulled out and extreme hydration needs to be the aim of the game rather than just a pretty fragrance.

The team over at Deciem (parent company to Hand Chemistry and Hylamide among many others) have been extremely generous once again and have sent me the Hand Chemisty Extreme Hydration Concentrate* for review. This ultra concentrated hand cream is formulated containing five hydration active technologies from both marine & plant sources which are meant to provide your hands with lasting hydration effects and are even said to improve visible textural issues. The directions are to apply both morning and night for 10 days and then as needed after this initial period.

So, onto my experience with this hand cream. First off, the cream – actually I really should correct myself here, as nowhere do they claim to be ‘cream’ the product is described as ‘Extreme Hydration Concentrate’ – and it is not a creamy texture but more gel like in both looks and feel. There is a very faint fresh light scent to the gel but it is completely non-offensive and in any case it does quickly disappear after applying. The gel is very easily absorbed, likely due to the siliconey nature of the product, and within moments I really do feel like my hands have a protective glove over them as the claims state. No greasiness whatsoever.

When I started using the Hand Chemisty Extreme Hydration Concentrate I did follow the instructions for morning and evening applications for 10 days and have to say that I saw pretty immediate results in terms of hydration. After using this product for over two months I can get away with applying this once a day or sometimes less (it lives on my bedside table now and I try to apply most nights) and I still feel like I am getting great results as the ingredients are fomulated to provide your hands with lasting below surface hydration and to also encourage your skin to create it’s own long term hydration. I never feel the need to re-apply multiple times a day like I do with less effective creams.

As I am not in possession of a chemisty degree nor am I any kind expert I base my opinions soley on my experience using a product and how it works for me versus what the product claims to do. Firstly I’ll address the claim of ‘visible textural improvements’. Apart from the highly moisturising effect which takes away the scaly or parched looking skin I can’t say I notice any other visible change. But on the other hand I don’t have any real issues with texture, age spots, discolouration etc so there is really no need for any other visible improvements. The claim of lasting hydration for hands holds very true for me and I can see myself using this ultra concentrated formula for many years to come. I have never used a hand treatment this effective and the fact I have already ordered a back up with my own money speaks to how much I enjoy the effects.

I will never give up completely on fancy and perfumed hand creams but it’s nice to know that I now have a real workhorse in my arsenal for when I really need it.
