Chanel foundations and also Chanel makeup generally, have always held a special place in my heart. Chanel Vitalumiere has been one of my longest loves from the Chanel brand and a little more recently the Chanel Perfection Lumiere Velvet (review here) has been one of my go-to’s. So when I heard Chanel was releasing a new foundation, I was all over it. Suffice to say, on the Australian launch day I made a special trip down to the shops (yeah, like I needed an excuse) to pick up the new Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Foundation.
From first swatch to application it has been love at first sight. Thicker in texture than both the Vitalumiere and Perfection Velvet it falls somewhere in between the two in terms of finish. If you are familar with the ‘Healthy Glow’ range from Chanel this new foundation fits in perfectly with the naturally beautiful aesthetic of the line. Neither dewy nor matte the finish of the Healthy Glow Foundation is just that – a healthy glow, naturally perfected skin in a bottle.
The Chanel Healthy Glow Foundation falls into the light- medium coverage realm with one pump giving a sheer to light base and adding an extra pump to build coverage where needed. I have used applied with both fingers and the Beauty Blender and both give me great results. I find the foundation settles and dries down and has a very slight powder finish which to me is very natural skin-like. Depending on your skin type you can decide whether you wish to powder or not. With my normalish skin type I tend to set under my eyes where I apply concealer to prevent creasing and dust just a little around my nose and chin to be safe.
After a week of wearing the Healthy Glow Foundation (almost) non stop I find that first of all, it’s one of those foundations that just keeps looking better as the day goes on. We have sweltered through a couple of excessively hot days this week (as well as summer storms) and I can’t fault it. Obviously on the 40+ days there was some fading, but I’d put that down to the humidity trying to literally melt everything off my face. In saying that, the foundation still performed better than I expected. On the more temperate days it lasted easily a good 8-10 hours before I noticed any minimal wear. The finish on my skin is light, fresh and natural – if you are looking for hard-core coverage this is not your jam. I will say though, as light and fresh as it feels it is quite fragranced so if you don’t enjoy fragrance in your makeup you may wish to skip. Personally I love the scent of Chanel products so it doesn’t bother me in the slightest.
I can see this being one of my go-to daytime bases when I would like a little more coverage than tinted moisturiser but still want my skin to breathe. With the added bonus of SPF 25+ it is defintely a foundation geared to daytime wear, rather than evenings out.
Available now in Australia at Chanel Stockists. As far as I am aware it is also available now in the UK.
