When it comes to makeup and skincare I’m not one of those people who completely changes up every product I use just because the seasons change. There are however, products I gravitate towards more (and some less) so today I thought we’d have a chat about some of the stuff, new and old, that I’ve been using and loving now we are into the middle of Spring.
Kate Sommerville Nourish Hydrating Firming Mist When I first purchased this I wasn’t really sold on it. I didn’t really like the scent and to me, these hydrating spritz products are all about that ritual of spraying and inhaling a gorgeous scent while the product dries down a touch either after cleansing and before serums or just as a pick-me-up at any time of day. I love the actual spray, it’s so fine and sinks in nicely and really does inject a bit of moisture. The scent has grown on me. If you’re expecting floral, this is not that, but it is fresh and uplifting and gives good hydration!
Dr Hauschka Rose Day Cream Light I bought this as a spring time alternative to the MV Skincare Rose Soothing Protective Moisturiser (which I love – review here, but it’s rather pricey). This is a beautiful day cream that smells great, sits beautifully under makeup and provides enough hydration for my combo skin which has become rather dry of late.
Skin Own Eye+ After receiving this the Caroline Hirons Cult Beauty Box (post here) I’ve become a little addicted to using this as my morning eye cream. I say cream, but it really is more of a gel texture. Applied under the eye the cooling sensation is immediately apparent and I look less puffy in moments. My undereye area is always really dry and I find this gives me enough moisture for the daytime and works great under makeup. I do prefer a more heavy formulation at night under my eyes but for daytime? This gel is awesome.
Nars Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturiser What do I say about this amazing tinted moisturiser? Lightweight, SPF30, easy to apply and fabulous coverage. Easily one of my top 10 favourite bases of all time. THE perfect spring base.
Clinique Chubby Lash in Portly Plum Now, I get that this purple/plum toned mascara would work fabulously for the northern hemispheres A/W but hey, I didn’t get this until spring and damn it – I’mma make this work! Very neutral eye look and a few coats of this for a subtle pop of colour. This mascara does a nice job of ‘fattening’ but I do think the strength in this particular formulation is the shade range.
Make Up For Ever Mist & Fix Setting sprays are something that up until fairly recently I rarely used. It was really only big occasions that I’d actually bust one out and use. Case in point, I bought this smaller size spray earlier in the year back in maybe april/may and up until the past month had probably used a grand total of 5 times (and that’s pushing it). But, this past month or so has seen me ditch powdering my entire face in favour of a more glowy look but I still need my war paint to last an entire day. This does the trick. The alcohol free spray does not dry my skin out and keeps my face looking fresh and foundation in place even without powdering.
Bloom Cosmetics Nail Polish in Alex* When it comes to Spring tootsies there’s only one colour I want and that’s PINK. Is there anything else more like spring than pink? I have been loving this particular shade from Bloom Cosmetics and the shade is perfect for me. I find the polish really long wearing , two coats of colour and top coat and you’re good for at least a week. Two if you’re super lazy about it and don’t kick too many walls.
Tom Ford Naked Bronze Summer 2015 Collection(review) Unfortunately now unavailable this stunning cream shadow/glitter duo is my go-to cream shadow of late. Urgh, this cream is just the most gorgeous shade of bronze I’ve ever used and it lasts all day, no creasing. What’s not to love?
MAC Lip Pencil in Edge to Edge I don’t wear lip liners daily, but I do like to keep a few around. Especially ones that can be used under a myriad of lip products and I find this one is just perfect for this reason. I have been wearing this under a lot of pinky/mauvey type shades and it works well to prolong the life of colour on my lips as well as keeping things looking a little more polished.
Guerlain Kiss Kiss Roselip in Pink Me Up A handbag staple of late. This pigmented lip balm is just on another level of lip balms. Reasonably long lasting for a balm and pigmented enough (especially paired with a liner ^^ ) to last a couple of hours. Enriched with rose oil extracts it leaves the lips feeling hydrated, smoothed and plumped. And really….that luxe bullet is just to die!
By Terry Terrybly Densiliss Contouring in Fresh Contrast 100 Speaking of luxe packaging, By Terry has done it again. From the heavy metal compact to the gorgeous powder embossing this bronzer/blush/highlight all in one is just stunning. If you are a medium to darker complexion this one will likely not work for you, but on my lighter skin tone this works beautifully. You can use the sides separately (you’ll need a pretty small brush) but most of the time I just swish my brush around the entire pan and sweep across my cheeks, forehead and neck for a subtle bronzed look with a hint of pinkness to it. No blush required.
MAC Macnificent Me Eyeshadow X 9 When all the ‘times 9’ palettes started coming out from MAC I was really torn between the Amber x 9 and the Burgandy x 9 (both look stunning!) but I ended up deciding on neither. Then the Magnificent Me palette came along and I knew I had made the right decision to wait as this one is just…..me! You know how in almost every palette there is a shade or two that you just know you aren’t going to get use from? Nope, not here. Every shade is a wearable for me. A good mix of light, med and darker tones as well as matte, velvet and frost finishes this really is a do-it-all kind of palette. The small size along with the lightweight plastic compact make this a perfect travel companion for the spring/summer for me.
